I began photographing eagles about seven years ago. During the first few years, I spent countless hours standing in fields in subzero temperatures where eagles had been sighted, but I rarely saw any to photograph. My first real opportunity to practice eagle photography came during a trip to Conowingo Dam in Maryland during eagle migration season. It was then that I realized my camera setup was far from adequate. Although I was thrilled to return with a few good images, I knew there was still plenty of room for improvement. Over time, I’ve refined my camera setup several times and have finally settled on a kit that works for me, allowing me to significantly improve my eagle photography.
